PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision

No more glasses, no more reading glasses – with advanced eye laser technology.

With increasing age (40 years plus) we cannot see closeup things sharp. Acuity decreases with further aging and makes reading glasses necessary. This phenomenom of the aging eye is called presbyopia.
Reason for this is a loss of accommodation, due to a sclerosis of the intraocular lens.

Removal of the lens and implantation of a multifocal or EDOF lens is a solution. Due to further research results and new technology it is today possible to deal with this issue with an eye-laser-surgery without removing the natural eye lens!

What is Laser Blended Vision?

Laser Blended Vision is one of the most advanced options to treat the aging eye. The procedure, also called PRESBYOND, can compensate for the symtoms of presbyopia.
PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision is a patent by Carl Zeiss Meditec. AOZ Heidelberg is a Carl Zeiss Meditec Reference Center for Refractive Surgery.

What are the alternatives in the treatment of the aging eye?

Monovision

A very basic principle is monovision. That is one eye is treated for distance and one eye is treated for the near. The brain has to get used to have 2 different pictures. Only few people can get used to 2 different images.
Statistics show only 59 – 67 % can adapt.

Laser Blended Vision

PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision is a new generation in refractive eye laser surgery. As with the traditional monovision correction one eye is primarily for the distance and the other eye covers near vision. Laser Blended Vision makes the essential difference in providing a unique and patented ablation profile that allows for an optimized depth of focus and a customized blend zone.
The customized blend zone allows a fusion of the 2 different pictures and therefore 3D vision. For most patients the effect is immediate.
Most patients (97%) are candidates for Laser Blended Vision.
Another effect of of PRESBYOND is preservation of contrast and stereoscopic vision.

Is Laser Blended Vision right for you?

Laser blended vision is for people with active lifestyles who prefer not to wear glasses.

Laser Blended Vision is suitable for people with additional refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Suitability depends on multiple factors such as your visual needs and expectations. Therefore we will interview you concerning your individual preferrences.

Prerequisite for a Laser Blended Vision treatment is very detailed preoperative work-up exam, which is the basis for our recommendation, if you are a candidate or not.

Prior to your laser treatment we do very detailed measurements of your eyes. This is most likely the most extensive eye-exam you ever had. These data are basis for your laser-vision-correktion.

Your eye is numbed with eye-drops. A lid-speculum keeps your eye open during the course of the treatment. The femtosecond-laser shapes a lamella of your cornea (flap), which will remain attached. This is followed bby an ablation with the excimer-laser and replacement of the flap.
This corresponds with the classic Femto-LASIK and takes about 10 min per eye. Both eyes will be treated in the same session. Recovery is fast.

We recheck your eyes before you leave, provide you with all the necessary medication and make an follow-up appointment for the next day.

Frequently asked questions about Laser Blended Vision

Every healing process differs. In most cases, patients can see clearly a day or two after the operation. Your new eyesight will stabilize within two to three weeks.

With Laser Blended Vision, one eye is optimized for complete distant vision and some intermediate vision. The other eye is corrected for sharp intermediate and near vision. As a result, you cannot see clearly in all areas of vision with a single eye. With both eyes together you can see clearly at all distances.

As with all surgical treatments there can be risks and side effects. To reduce this to an absolute minimum we believe in a very comprehensive work-up exam, however long this takes. Possible side effects are: dry-eye, glare, initial over- or undercorrection.
Even, if you experience side-effects these can be taken care of.

During the work-up exam we explain risks and side-effects in detail.

With Laser Blended Vision usually both eyes are treated in one session. So you can enjoy all the advantages of the procedure.
